Age of kids on safari

Question

I am busy doing research for a northern circuit safari ,and came across a few tour operators that do not recommend children under the age of 6yrs to go on safari and some even suggested from 12yrs onwards is suitable. Have any taken kids under 6yrs and how was it. Also besides the duration of a few trips that could be some of the reasons, are there any other ? Are kids more prone to falling ill on safaris? Please advise, as we might need to change our plans.

  1. Hi,
I have had many children on safari even as young as 3-4, it is ok as long as you plan the safari around the children and make sure they have time outside the vehicle where possible to run around.
The driver needs to be child friendly 🙂 One needs to make sure the children are looked after as in mosquito repellents being used and mosquito nets – bottled water etc, they do not get more sick than adults 🙂

    Thank you!
