Mbeya to Lake Manyara National Park

Mbeya to Lake Manyara National Park

There are many ways to get  to lake manyara national park from Mbeya; which are by planeTaxiBus or Private car. The road is good all the way to lake manyara national park, or Mwanza if you want to take that route, but the recommended route from Mbeya to lake manyara national park: Mbeya, Iringa, Dodoma , Babati, Makuyuni, Karatu then you enter a protected area of Ngorongoro to Serengeti.

Mbeya to lake manyara national park by Bus:

At the most it will take two days. If you leave very early in the morning you will be able to get to Arusha. You can get to Dar es Salaam in a day, then the next day go to Arusha from Dar. Overnight at the Rombo Green View hotel in Dar which is very close to the Ubungo Bus Terminal. Going to Dar will be about 100km out of your way. If you want to avoid this extra 100km then go to Morogoro and stay overnight there, then get another bus to Arusha from Morogoro the next day.

You could take another toute which is: Mbeya, Iringa, Dodoma, then Babati, but the problem is that you dont have many options in Babati to go to lake manyara national park. Most people would want to go to Serengeti or other Northern Circuit National parks for Safari, for that case, the best place to arrange that is Arusha townSo it is good to go to Dar-Es-Salaam, overnight, and then next day take a Bus from Dar-Es-Salaam to Arusha.

Self drive to lake manyara national park from Mbeya:

If you own a car or hire one you can surely drive to lake manyara national park, if you want to use the same car to do game drive in Serengeti (I discourage this), then you must make sure that you get the right Vehicle for that. You have options of two route, one is: Drive from Mbeya, overnight Dar Es Salaam, and proceed the next day to Arusha, or use Mbeya, Iringa, Dodoma, Karatu route!

You can safely leave your car in Arusha town or Karatu , and get a proper Safari vehicle with a proffesional driver (If you are coming to lake manyara national park for the first time, I highly recommend that you do self drive in lake manyara national park if you are coming for the second time).  The road is very good, and there are so many places where you can overnight, though I advice you to overnight only in towns.

Air Transfer from Mbeya to Lake Manyara National Park:

There is an option of flying from Arusha to  Lake Manyara National Park,  but you must arrange what to do in Serengeti well in advance because it is a protected area. You can book accomodation in Serengeti which includes possibility of doing game drive; and then will pick you from an airstrip in Lake Manyara, it is a packaage that includes both accomodation, game drive, transfers and food.

There are no direct flight from Mbeya to Lake Manyara National Park, and so you will go through Arusha (I advice you to overnight), from here (If you do not want to book everything in advance), you can look for Safari deals to Serengeti (There are so many last minutes deals though you have to make sure you meet the right people)
